On the Solemnity of St. Joseph, March 19, 2022, the National Service of Communion – SNC Italy organized a meeting of the realities of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal – CCR – in the Basilica of St. John Lateran – Rome, to celebrate 50 years of this current of grace in Italy. There were 1000 people present from the various different expressions of the Renewal.
It was a moment of grace, communion, joy, praise and thanksgiving to God for these fifty years, for the fire of Pentecost that has touched millions of people around the world. The CHARIS moderator Pino Scafuro and the Ecclesiastical Assistant Card. Raniero Cantalamessa O.F.M. Cap. gave a greeting and a meditation respectively. Some of the early pioneers of the Renewal testified to the powerful experience of the Holy Spirit and how their lives were changed by this encounter.
Everything culminated in the Eucharist celebrated by Card. Angelo De Donatis, vicar general of His Holiness for the diocese of Rome.
We met again the next morning in St. Peter’s square to receive Pope Francis’ blessing, who addressed a special greeting to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and CHARIS reiterating that it is the only Service for this current of grace that is the CCR.
