LIVING A PENTECOSTAL CULTURE THROUGH THE SPREAD OF BAPTISM IN THE SPIRIT
We are delighted to share with you an exciting update from the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Mauritius, which recently celebrated its golden jubilee with great joy.
At 50 years old, we are reaching maturity, and it is time to dive deeper!
As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, we had the privilege of welcoming Michelle Moran for a three-day training course and a weekend of conferences. The course focused intensively on the role of leaders in the Charismatic Renewal. Michelle reminded us of the messages of Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI, Francis, and Leo XIV, emphasizing the continuity of these messages for the Charismatic Renewal. It was particularly interesting to understand the diversity of their message in the context of their respective pontificates and how these messages are relevant to our reality today, given that the Church is embedded in the world.
Benedict XVI’s message, “Rediscovering a Culture of Pentecost,” struck us with its insight and prophetic vision of Europe and the world. As for Pope Francis’ message, his invitation to the entire CCR to share the grace of “Baptism in the Spirit” with the whole Church remains very alive and present in our minds.
Michelle also reminded us of the importance of moving forward, since stagnation leads to the certain death of a group or community. She invited us to always ask ourselves how we can serve the Church as a community. And more personally, as servant-leaders, she also challenged us to reflect on how we would like to be remembered and whether we are able to say, “Follow me?”
We are invited to venture into deep waters, not to cling to our dusty wineskins, but to allow ourselves to be renewed, shaking off the dust of 50 years to welcome the new wine that the Lord wants to give us in abundance. At the same time, we will learn when to serve the new wine and when to serve the old wine.
