Rome, May 30, 2026 – A profound experience of ecclesial communion, prayer, and renewed missionary zeal characterized the international meeting promoted by CHARIS in preparation for the 2027 Jubilee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
Thousands of members of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal from all over the world took part in their first audience with Pope Leo XIV in the Paul VI Hall. Welcoming the participants with special warmth, the Holy Father recognized the Renewal as a great gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church and expressed his desire to strengthen the bond of closeness and support between the See of Peter and the great family of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Several leaders, pastors, and bishops from other Christian churches participating in the 2033 Agenda were also present.
In his address, Pope Leo XIV recalled several fundamental aspects of the charismatic experience: Baptism in the Holy Spirit, the prayer of praise, love for the Word of God, communion, and charity. He recalled how the outpouring of the Holy Spirit leads to a living knowledge of God’s love and awakens the desire to become witnesses and messengers of his consolation in the world.
He devoted special attention to communion, an authentic fruit of the Holy Spirit. The Pope encouraged the members of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal to safeguard unity within the Church, promote spiritual ecumenism, and live relationships founded on mutual listening, harmony, and service.
The days spent at the El Carmelo Spirituality House offered the opportunity to explore these themes more deeply through moments of prayer, adoration, formation, and testimonies. The participants reflected on the wonders the Lord has accomplished in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal throughout almost sixty years of history, and on the call to prepare with faith and courage for the Jubilee of 2027.
The meditations and testimonies highlighted the need to continue proclaiming the Gospel with renewed ardor, building bridges of unity, serving those most in need, and allowing themselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit toward a new stage of evangelization. The invitation to live an ever-present Pentecost resonated strongly — one capable of transforming divisions into fraternity and making the Church a credible sign of God’s love in the world.
At the end of the audience, Pope Leo XIV urged everyone to place themselves at the service of dioceses and parishes, to collaborate with humility, and to avoid every form of personal prominence. Entrusting the journey of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal to the protection of the Virgin Mary, he concluded with these words:
“May the Holy Spirit always be a light and a source of strength on your personal and communal journey.”
With gratitude for this day of grace, CHARIS continues its service to the Church, looking with hope toward the 2027 Jubilee of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
