One word stands out in the messages of Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, and Bishop Peter Smith: Mission.
Not a mission built on human strategies, but one born from a living encounter with Jesus and sustained by the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. This is the call once again entrusted to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal as it journeys toward its Jubilee in 2027.
Pope Leo XIV reminded the Renewal that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not meant to be kept for ourselves, but generously shared. Baptism in the Holy Spirit, praise, the Word of God, communion and charity are gifts entrusted to the Renewal so that they may become a source of life for the whole Church and a sign of hope for today’s world.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell reaffirmed this vision, by recalling that the Catholic Charismatic Renewal is a “current of grace” given for the renewal of the entire Church. He pointed to evangelization as the heart of every charism, encouraging communities to live their missionary vocation with renewed courage by spreading the grace of baptism in the Holy Spirit, fostering communion, serving the poor and allowing themselves to be led by the Holy Spirit. In a special way, he urged the Renewal to reach out to young people wherever they are, accompanying them to an encounter with Christ and preparing the way for World Youth Day in Seoul in 2027.
Bishop Peter Smith, in turn, brought the focus back to the true face of missionary discipleship. The future of the Renewal does not depend primarily on structures, but on men and women transformed by the Holy Spirit, living lives marked by gratitude, humility and obedience, and becoming living witnesses of the Gospel. Mission is not simply about speaking of Christ; it is about allowing Christ to live and shine through our lives.
Three voices, one shared horizon. Three messages converging in a single call: not to keep this grace for ourselves, but to be continually renewed by the Holy Spirit so that we may become a living presence of the Gospel in today’s world. This is the mission entrusted today to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal: to build communion, awaken hope, reach the younger generations, and proclaim Christ to the ends of the earth.
