On Sunday, July 4, Pope Francis underwent a scheduled operation for diverticular sigmoid stenosis. The operation was performed under general anesthesia by Professor Sergio Alfieri at the A. Gemelli Polyclinic and involved a left hemicolectomy. The Holy Father has reacted well to the intervention.
